Creative Writing on the Web

Guest Blogging Is An Essential SEO Strategy

Blogging has become the hottest search marketing strategy for businesses throughout the world. We all know the drill by now- optimize your blog, include relevant links and blog regularly. However, did you know contributing to another person’s blog can help you get more out of your own blog? It’s true. Guest blogging has truly become an essential SEO strategy.

Contributing a guest blog can benefit you on several levels.

  • New Audience- The most obvious benefit of guest blogging is it exposes your brand to a whole new audience. If you impress this new group of readers, you could see some of them become loyal visitors to your own blog. For this reason, it’s important you contribute your best content for the guest post. A tired, rehashed post with no personality will not only lose potential readers; it will damage your reputation. Try to think of a topic you can engage readers with by giving them a fresh, outside opinion. Interact with the readers in the comments section, and you will start to establish a rapport with them.
  • Back Links- From a purely SEO perspective, guest blogging is a good SEO strategy because it will earn you an inbound link. It’s standard protocol to allow the guest blogger to include a link back to their blog. Quality links such as these are highly sought after, so you should consider taking advantage of this opportunity by finding somewhere to guest blog.
  • Builds Authority- Another advantage of guest blogging is it helps establish authority for your brand. Readers will see the level of respect other industry bloggers have for you, and they will begin to see you as an authority figure. With the millions of blogs flooding the internet, this newfound authority status can go a long way to making you stand out from the rest of the pack. It will also go a long way to building your credibility with the search engines.

Letting Others Guest Blog

Besides guest blogging on other forums, think about letting others occasionally contribute to your blog. Letting someone else speak to your readers may seem counterintuitive to building your brand, but it can actually be a successful SEO strategy. First, the guest blogger will likely mention their contribution to your blog to their readers. This mention will also probably come with a link directing them to your site.

Furthermore, allowing someone else to post on your blog builds credibility with your readers. It shows them you’re giving them access to a wide scope of relevant information. In other words, you’re the leading resource for industry information.

If you haven’t thought about guest blogging, consider implementing it into your existing SEO strategy. It can’t really hurt anything, but it can definitely help.

Guest blogging is a great way of spreading karma, and it can bring together the two (potentially different) audiences of two different blogs. This cross-pollination can give both sites a welcome boost in traffic.

@multimedia- I think you should give it a shot. Just make sure to research the blogger before letting them post on your blog. You want to pick someone with good insight.

@Daniel- definitely agree. the right mix of of audiences can create a really special reader base.

Thanks to you both for stopping by!

Yeah that’s a good idea I think :D

My current blog is written in danish, but maybe I should try to write a couple off articles i english, to see if that would attract others, than people from Denmark.

Or I could find a guest blogger, that wrote in english. Hmm…that was also an option…

@Mike: I understand how it is, not wanting anyone to mess with your “baby”. But if you clearly define your goals (including keywords!) and standards for posts on your blogs, you might be surprised at the huge contribution others can make to your content. Having others write on for SEO Noobs was the best development decision I could have made.

Couldn’t agree more with this article. Guest blogging is very underrated - it’s a great way to build links, authority and traffic. I actually run a guest blogging site (PiggyBankPie.com) so if anyone out there is interested in contributing a guest blog feel free to contact me at charles [at] piggybankpie dot com
