4 Ways to Breathe New Life Into a Blog
Sometimes your get-up-and-go has got up and went, and you just don’t want to keep on blogging. It takes time for a blog to really catch on, and while you’re waiting it’s easy to lose the inspiration you had when it all began.
I know how it is, and here are a few tips to pull you out of the funk and get the ball rolling again.
1. Go Multi-Author. About all I remember from my college physics class is the law of perpetual motion. If I remember correctly, it said something like “an object in motion tends to stay in motion.” If your blogging efforts are stuck, give them a kick in the rear by bringing in a few fresh bloggers to join you. Once they get the ball rolling, you might find new inspiration. You can advertise for bloggers on the ProBlogger Job Board.
2. Install a New Theme. If you’re blogging with WordPress, installing a new theme is a piece of cake. A new look might be just the thing to rouse your posting muse. Premium themes like Brian Gardner’s Revolution Theme can give your site a more professional appearance. But when picking a new theme, be sure it’s SEO friendly!
3. Read a Good Book. An old programming phrase went something like, “Garbage in, garbage out.” Whatever you feed your brain effects what your brain can produce. Read a good book and the posting juices could start to flow. But don’t just rehash what someone else has already written. If you read something on a topic entirely unrelated to your blog, even if it doesn’t seem applicable at first, you might stumble on a fresh idea you can bring to your own niche.
4. Just Do It. Sometimes the only way to bring about change is to get up and start doing something. Even if you can only take a small step, at least you’re putting things in motion. Remember, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. If you feel overwhelmed and the whole project looks too big, just start with a small part of it. One small step for a blogger, one giant leap for blogkind.

A very timely post Terry. Maintaining a blog is a big commitment and if you have to take a brief break for any reason, it’s good to find a way to come back with a bang!
Best regards
Robert
I agree, by the time your blog is beginning to take off, you’re getting tired of it! I’ve been through this twice with my cat blog, but the second time I took a few days off and goofed around. Now it’s back to work, and I feel like I have a lot more motivation.
Sometimes you just have to remember that this is a JOB like any other, and even though you don’t feel like going to work, if you want a paycheck, you’d better show up! When I take that attitude, it’s easier to stay with it.
I’ve definitely had the experience that reading a thought-provoking book provides you with ideas for posts.
And you are right about just doing it. Actions speak louder than words (or thoughts).

Getting feedback on your site will help you breath life into your blog. Ask your friends on what they’d find interesting to read/see on your site. Good friends make excellent critics.
